I met Astrid a few years ago when she opened the door to the main house of Solstice Grove; a community of ecological, sociological, technological and cultural activists that live in a shared yurt community in Marin. I was there to document a healing ceremony through Seven Circles, a non-profit I’ve been following and was fortunate enough to have Astrid as my greeter.
Now, a few years later, I returned to this precious land surrounded by a mystical redwood grove that has once been blessed by the Dali Llama. I returned for the purpose to photograph Astrid’s engagement to Matthew, whom she met while living at Solstice Grove.
As they both admit, they thought very little of each other upon first impressions. Luckily first impressions are misleading and the two are now partners in life and in love.
Part of the uniqueness of the yurt community is the main house which is comprised of a beautiful kitchen, community living rooms, a library, pool, hot tub, multiple bathrooms, offices AND shared walk-in closets for their clothes and belongings. It is in this closet where I will focus the story as Astrid and Matthew were assigned to share this space.
While most people upon dating shove all of their skeletons in the closet and under their beds, these two were living and staring at each others’ daily habits. Ten months later, they were a couple journeying together in ceremonies and planning their lives and business together.
Astrid and Matthew have spent the last few months tireless building their business called the Living Seed Company, offering organic seed options to be sent internationally.
Even though they have set the date for the wedding, December 21, 2012, Matthew is still planning to officially propose. “We are not linear people”, said Matthew. But they are in love and they are getting married. I can’t wait to hear about the proposal. I LOVE THESE PEOPLE!
Head out to San Francisco’s Green Fest this weekend to have your own sneak peak at the Living Seed Company. Booth #135 in the garden section where they’ll be selling collections and individual seed packets! You can also follow them on Facebook at Living Seed Company.
